Flying in the face of a beleaguered travel sector, business travel management company, ABT UK, has its sights firmly set on growth for the year ahead, with the opening of a new office in Bath.

Despite a growing roll call of travel firms feeling the pinch from the economic downturn, ABT UK is opening a second branch, boosting the five-strong team working out of the London office. The two additional staff will join the current workforce in offering a full range of tailor-made travel solutions for corporate clients across the UK and Europe, from simple point-to-point trip requests and hotel bookings, to complex conference planning.

Cilla Goldberger, Managing Director of ABT UK, said of the expansion: “As a small, independent company with a core focus on customer service we’ve managed to remain flexible and nimble, key factors for succeeding in the current climate.

“This is an exciting time for us and we’re in good shape to be growing. The positive outlook for industry in the South West was an important factor in our decision.”

According to the latest South West Outlook Report 2011, conducted by accountancy network, BDO, the official unemployment level for the region was just 6.1% in Q4 2010 - the lowest of all UK regions. Other sources suggest that the South West business community is well placed to emerge even stronger from the recession. Factors such as new business initiatives, Regional Growth Fund cash injections and the recent launch of a new route from Bristol to Zurich will ensure the region remains a hub for development.

The regional arm of ABT Global – with over 300 employees in 20 offices in the USA, Europe and the Far East – ABT UK’s addition of a second office will be a welcome arrival in the South West.
