Press release - Visit Brighton
Brighton's Picture Perfect Biennial
Brighton is preparing to welcome the finest photographers and visual artists from around the world for the fourth Brighton Photo Biennial (BPB).
Running from the 2 October - 14 November 2010, this ambitious celebration of international photographic practice is curated by world-renowned photographer and editor Martin Parr.
Five separate exhibitions at some of Brighton’s most culturally eclectic venues will focus on the diverse theme of ‘New Documents’, including a selection of commissioned works from internationally celebrated photographers as well as a new generation of practitioners ranging from a Johannesburg club bouncer to a Mexican taxi driver.
BPB 2010 will be the world’s first frame-free photography festival, with all work being newly produced or newly re-discovered and on the cutting edge of photography.
“As curator, I want to make this festival fresh, distinctive and focused on Brighton & Hove. This city is the ideal venue for a photo biennial; it has a natural cultural constituency all of its own and New Documents will reflect its diverse communities.” says Martin Parr, Brighton Photo Biennial 2010 Curator.
“With Brighton Photo Biennial 2010 set to be bigger and better than ever before, Brighton & Hove has once more cemented its position as the cultural Mecca of the south-coast” says John Carmichael, Marketing Manager, VisitBrighton.
“With a full and diverse calendar of events running all year long, the-city-by-the-sea offers an abundance of opportunities to become immersed in some of the UK’s finest festivals.”
The BPB 2010 line-up includes:
