Cheapflights.co.uk Unveils World Cup Hangover Destinations
As Fabregas and Mascherano eyed foreign shores, they weren’t the only Premiership stars looking to escape England this summer. The England team also jetted off to escape their World Cup hangover, increasing the online search popularity of destinations like Florida and Sardinia by 29.70% and 17.50% respectively on Cheapflights.co.uk.
“Although it’s been almost two months since England’s exit from the World Cup, Premiership players remain very much in the news, with headlines focusing on the destinations they’ve chosen to forget their worries,” says Nadine Hallak, Travel Expert for Cheapflights.co.uk.
The UK’s leading website for flight search and comparison, Cheapflights.co.uk, has kept watch on where some of the top footballers have been on holiday and the impact they’ve had on the popularity of those destinations.
The destinations that came out on top include:
• Florida – John Terry’s hideaway is up by 29.70%
• Sardinia – Peter Crouch’s hideaway is up by 17.50%
• Barbados – Wayne Rooney’s hideaway is up by 11.20%
• Ibiza – Steven Gerrard’s hideaway is up by 9.60%
• Las Vegas – Frank Lampard’s hideaway is up by 5%
And while some players increase a destination’s popularity, the likes of Ashley Cole appear to send it plummeting. The infamous former Mr Tweedy went to Los Angeles to forget his many woes, seeing searches to the destination down by almost 35% - it would appear that travellers prefer not to be associated with him.
Getting back to the popular hot spots, John Terry made a wise choice with Florida, famous not only for attractions like Disneyworld and Universal Studios, but also for adrenalin producing activities such as race car driving at Daytona Beach. It’s also home to Miami and its pulsating night life, as well as having miles of sunny shorelines.
Sardinia, meanwhile, Peter Crouch’s escape of choice, serves up the tranquillity of crystal clear waters, mouth-watering Italian cuisine, breathtaking golf courses, super yachts in all their luxurious glory and famous wine vineyards, among numerous other offerings.
Wayne and Colleen Rooney chose the long-haul option, heading for Barbados, as did Frank Lampard with Las Vegas. The Rooneys opted for a rugged yet decadent experience packed with beaches, nature, and wildlife, while Lampard went for opulent indulgence.
If none of those destinations tickle your fancy, make like Gerrard and hop a 2.5-hour plane ride to Ibiza, the island of round-the-clock night life, beaches galore and hippy markets.
